What is SPC?
SPC (Solid Polymer Capacitor) capacitors are electrolytic capacitors that help protect power supplies in electronic devices against voltage fluctuations and high frequency noise. For some reasons SPC capacitors are more widely used than other capacitor types:
- High performance: SPC capacitors have high performance characteristics and last longer than other capacitor types. Therefore, they are often preferred in applications that require high performance and long life capacitors.
- Low impedance: SPC capacitors can flow high currents quickly due to their low impedance. This is an important advantage, especially in high power applications.
- High temperature tolerance: SPC capacitors have a higher temperature tolerance than other capacitor types. This allows them to be used in high temperature applications.
- Low ESR: SPC capacitors have lower ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) values than other capacitor types. This provides low noise performance by suppressing high frequency noise.
- Reliability: SPC capacitors have a lower failure rate than other capacitor types. This allows them to be used in applications that require reliability due to their high reliability.
For these reasons, SPC capacitors are widely used in many electronic applications that require high performance and reliability, especially in industrial automation, telecommunications, medical devices, military and aerospace applications.
For example, our SPC1520 and SPC1550 capacitors are high power capacitors for filtering, storage, process acceleration, power factor correction and capacitance in electronic circuits. Their capacitive characteristics make them a suitable choice for use in high power applications such as certain power supplies, amplifiers and processors.
How To Use Er+Spc Solution?
Our Eve branded ER34615+SPC1520 product consists of a super pulse capacitor and a lithium thionyl chloride (Li-SOCL2) battery. In order to provide the required capacity in the field, the two cells are connected in parallel and used together in the field. Of course, different combinations can be achieved by varying the number of ER cells behind the SPC or by using more SPC devices at the same time. The lithium primary battery ER stores enough capacity and keeps the SPC charged, while the SPC device can quickly pump the pulse charge into the system. This combined product successfully addresses both high energy density (large capacity) and high power density (high instantaneous current) requirements. Combining EVE ER batteries with supercapacitors, lithium-based SPC systems offer the following advantages:
- Higher cell voltage
- Much smaller impedance Higher capacity
- Much higher energy density
- Much less leakage current, virtually independent of temperature, saves ER battery life
- Much wider operating temperature range
- Much longer service life
- Much safer battery pack
ER+SPC is used in parallel with each other in the field as shown in the figure below. Different combinations can be created if these cells are used more.
ER (LI-SOCl2) cells also feature a metallic lithium (Li) carbon anode, the lightest of all metals, and a liquid cathode containing a porous current collector filled with thionyl chloride (SoCl2). With a rated voltage of 3.6V, an open circuit voltage of 3.66V and a closed circuit voltage of 3.4-3.6V, it is one of the highest voltage primary cells on the market during load.
